“¡Hoy los teens son aviones… y yo soy un tractor!”
Nació y creció en Ushuaia. En Buenos Aires estudió Arte Dramático y fue lavacopas. Después le llegaron el cine, la tele y la música (forma parte de Ambulancia, junto a Mike Amigorena y otros actores). Hoy, a los 31, disfruta del éxito arrasador de Casi Angeles. De lo que le enseñan los adolescentes, sus manías de soltero, sus ganas de enamorarse y sus sueños, habla desde el paisaje que mejor le sienta: la nieve, “porque conecta con mi infancia”.
Me fascina estar en la Patagonia, porque vuelvo a tener la mente en blanco y en frío. ¡Es mi mejor escenario! La nieve me conecta con mi estado primitivo, con mi infancia”, dice Mariano Torre (31) mientras despunta su único vicio, la tabla de snowboard, en el Cerro Chapelco, San Martín de los Andes, Neuquén. Desde los seis a los quince años esquiar era para él casi tan automático como respirar. “Era la gracia de vivir en Ushuaia. En el primario mi papá me dejaba en la pista después de la escuela, y cuando oscurecía bajaba solo a la ruta hasta mi casa. Cuando pisaba el felpudo me sacaba los esquíes”, recuerda. En la adolescencia descubrió la tabla de snowboard y nunca la abandonó. “¡Cómo necesitaba estas vacaciones! El primer día, tirarme me costó un montón, pero ahora me aflojé. La edad se va sintiendo: uno se endurece…”, dice el actor, invitado por Movistar. Lejana parece Buenos Aires, donde lo esperan para seguir avanzando en la futurista Casi Angeles. En 2008 ingresó a la tira ideada por Cris Morena, el hada madrina de la ficción adolescente, en el papel del villano. Y este año sumó la encarnación del hijo de Juan Cruz, quien además es el novio de Paz (Emilia Attias).
¿Cómo es posible ponerse en la piel del hombre más ruin y, un minuto después, expresar el espíritu más bondadoso del planeta?
–Me divierte mucho ser el anti-galán heroico, bueno al extremo, el alma caritativa que no para de cometer torpezas… Pero también disfruto de ser el padre malvado. Es casi psicótico: cuando me aburro del bueno, me río con el malo, y viceversa.
“DESCUBRI UN MUNDO DESCONOCIDO”. La adrenalina y el ritmo loco de las grabaciones diarias y los shows en el teatro lo mantienen entretenido: no piensa en el éxito. Sólo lo disfruta: “Me hace muy feliz estar en un proyecto así, pero no sucedió de un día para el otro, sino que es la consecuencia de un trabajo previo. Y no hablo sólo de la preparación en el conservatorio, sino también de un estado mental”.

–¿Tenías muchos prejuicios sobre los adolescentes?
–¡Ochocientos ochenta y ocho mil! ¡Era insoportable! Pensé que iba a ser tortuoso enfrentar a los teens. Pero me encanta la energía que tienen. Descubrí un mundo desconocido. Aprendo muchísimo de ellos. Los miro como desde un espejo que puede reflejar el pasado. Veo cómo toman las decisiones, cómo sienten los momentos fuertes de la vida…
–¿Y con los fans de Casi Angeles?
–¡Son aviones y yo soy un tractor! Cuando tenía la edad de ellos, prácticamente usaba pañales. Esa etapa en la que se está pensando pavadas la tuvimos nosotros, la tienen ellos y la tendrán los que vienen… ¡Pero qué lindo era! El otro día, los chicos intentaron enseñarme el bailecito flogger: obviamente, no me salió.
–¿Los problemas de los chicos son tal y como se reflejan en el programa?
–Sí, pero están tamizados por la exacerbación lógica de la televisión, sumada a que se trata de una historia fantástica, y complicada argumentalmente. Hay cosas que son muy de ellos, por ejemplo, la tecnología. Yo leo los e-mails y chateo un poco, pero nada más; me divierten más la guitarra y la batería.
–¿Y el baile y el canto?
–¡Están buenísimos! Es curioso, porque todo se fue dando como si subiera una escalera. De chico bailaba folklore; en la tira Costumbres argentinas conocí a Daniela Herrero (su ex), que también me fue llevando hacia la música; después me sumé al proyecto de Ambulancia (la banda que formó en 2003 con sus colegas y amigos Mike Amigorena, Luciano Bonanno, Muriel Santa Ana, Julián Vilar y Víctor Malagrino y que dirige Sergio D’Angelo, en la que hoy sigue colaborando pero sólo desde la trastienda); y ahora Casi Angeles, que es casi un examen. Lo que pasa es que los chicos de TeenAngels tienen otra velocidad, vienen de tres años de sacar coreos. ¡Yo me siento una piedra! Cada tanto se me salen las vértebras de lugar.
“IRE HACIA DONDE EL VIENTO ME LLEVE”. Lejos quedaron aquellos años de lavacopas en un bar, los estudios en el Conservatorio Nacional de Arte Dramático y la soledad de la Capital –“Un día esperaba el 29, y como vi que por enfrente pasaba uno vacío, crucé la avenida y lo tomé. Me creía un piola bárbaro subido a ese bondi… hasta que me dijeron que estaba en Olivos”, recuerda–. Pero en 1997 lo eligieron en el casting de la película El juguete rabioso, donde trabajó con Lito Cruz, Jorge Luz y Thelma Biral. Y nunca más paró: en tele integró Verano del ’98, Tiempofinal, El deseo, Televisión por la identidad, Aquí no hay quien viva; y en teatro, Arlequín, servidor de dos patrones, dirigido por Alicia Zanca, y en Lisandro, de David Viñas, bajo las órdenes de Villanueva Cosse, entre otros trabajos.
–¿Pensás en el día después del “Fin” de Casi Angeles?
–No, cada papel fue un regalo. Disfrutaré de lo que venga tanto como de lo que me sucede hoy. No tengo ambiciones de ser el número uno en nada.
–¿Cómo te movés en el ambiente del espectáculo?
–Me siento un tipo normal. Si hay lealtad, no me molesta estar en un casting con un amigo. Y si le dan el papel a él, lo abrazo de corazón. Cuando empiezo a percibir una especie de olor raro, me voy. Y me fui rodeando de gente que piensa de la misma manera.
–Tus “ambulancias”…
–Exactamente. En la banda tenemos los mismos ideales y la confianza como para decirnos lo horrible y lo hermoso que tiene cada uno, con libertad. Y con la gente que trabaja en Casi Angeles también: cuando no nos vemos por obligación, lo hacemos por gusto.
–Así como un día dejaste Tierra del Fuego por la gran ciudad, ¿pensaste en irte al exterior?
–Sí. La frontera está abierta y no le digo que no a nada. Iré hacia donde el viento me lleve. Tengo la valija lista.
–¿Hacia dónde te lleva el amor?
–Estoy solo desde hace tres años, y estaría bueno enamorarme. Todavía no apareció nadie que me banque el ritmo y la cabeza.
–¿Preferís un fin de semana romántico en la nieve o un campamento hippie?
–Mmmm… ¡Las dos cosas! Y estaría bueno encontrar la chica para ambas situaciones.
–¿Cómo la imaginás?
–Debe gustarme físicamente, pero no tengo cánones. También me tiene que desafiar intelectualmente, ponerme en jaque, para crecer y divertirnos juntos. Ahí me quedo. ¡El problema es que tengo todas las manías de treintañero soltero!
–¿Cuáles son?
–Los vasos sucios, por ejemplo; me doy cuenta cuando vienen mis amigos de Ushuaia a quedarse en casa y me pongo loco. También me gusta tener la tele siempre encendida, pero en silencio. Me atrapa, me hipnotiza. Eso sí: no tanto como la nieve. Sólo acá la televisión no existe.
